mph. Gusts up to 55 mph are possible across portions of eastern
Iowa.

northeast Iowa.

* WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to 9 AM CST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Roadways may become slick and hazardous. The hazardous
conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute. Gusty winds
will blow around unsecured objects, including holiday decorations.
Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A period of freezing rain is possible this
evening into early tonight mainly north of Highway 30 before the
precipitation changes to all rain as temperatures warm above
freezing. Very strong west to northwest winds are expected behind
a cold front late tonight into Wednesday morning, which may be
accompanied by snow showers or periods of light snow resulting in
reduced visibilities. Additionally, blowing and drifting snow is
possible in open and rural areas, especially across eastern Iowa.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while
driving. If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken
on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and

.A fast moving winter system will move into the area this afternoon
into tonight. North of Interstate 94, mainly snow is expected with
accumulations of 5-7 inches. South and west of Interstate 94, light
freezing rain currently ongoing over central Minnesota is expected
to move into the region with ice accumulations of a glaze up to one
tenth of an inch. Along Interstate 94, snow accumulations of 1 to 5
inches is expected along with the potential for a glaze of ice
accumulation. Regardless of precipitation type, hazardous travel
conditions are expected this afternoon into tonight. Winds increase
tonight for areas west of the Mississippi River and south of
Interstate 90 with gusts of 45+ mph possible. Intense bursts of snow
are also possible west of the Mississippi River tonight.
Accumulations during this period are expected to be light, generally
up to 1 inch, but a period of low visibility and hazardous travel is
possible.
